In development for about five years, The Secret World is the new MMORPG from Funcom, the study also responsible for Age of Conan, but the authors are working on the history of the game well before 2006, when the project was still called the Cabal . At the recent EA Showcase in London we had the opportunity to attend a session of play the first part of this new MMORPG, with commentary by two of the developers responsible for the project. For the uninitiated, The Secret World takes place in our world, we all know in this ... or nearly so.

The session at which we saw took place at the beginning of the game, so we saw the birth of a game character, a London girl who receives a gift as many of the magic power of the spirit of Gaia. The event of course sends his life in turmoil and things did not go unnoticed, because after a few days an agent of the Templar knocks at his door to recruit and advise you to go find the Mad King, an NPC that is usually found in a nearby park. It is here that the developers take control of the character, so far the events have been narrated through non-interactive cut scenes. The camera behind the character is the family of all MMORPGs, as it seemed to controls. On the screen there are also icons that indicate clearly where our next goal, a feature now common in many games (unfortunately, we might almost add). Reached the Mad King, after a brief exchange, the character falls unconscious and finds himself in a flashback that recounts the events that took place three weeks before the start of the game in Tokyo, an incident that sparked the global crisis against where players have to fight.
