That the exchange of securities is an aspect of video games that sometimes we find it hard to understand. Take the example of the new game developed by internal studio of Sony PlayStation Japan Life and scheduled for release with the console at the end of February. The Japanese title is Gravity Daze while the European edition Rush Gravity was chosen for reasons we can not imagine. However, this is a minor issue and its title does not change the substance of this new action game with an original and distinctive aesthetic style. The graphic design is certainly the most striking aspect of this new project of Studio Japan, with its soft lines and its pastel colors, but the game mechanics do not seem to be underestimated. A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to try a short demo of the Japanese version of the game, but with texts already partially in English fortunately.

The premises are not particularly original, in fact Gravity Rush play as a young girl who has lost his memory and that is in a strange city. After a brief introduction, the game will give the task of finding a mysterious cat that has the unusual power to manipulate gravity. The control system at this stage is familiar and common to many other games in the third person, so we find it hard to find the cat who was waiting near a fountain. At this point, things change with the decision, because the cat, which of course is also able to speak, teach us to control gravity at will (or maybe it just reminds us that we are able to do so, moreover, she has lost memory). The short tutorial has given us the simple instructions on how to take advantage of our new knowledge to soar into the air and walk on any surface, horizontal or vertical or both. Pressing one of the two triggers the girl leaves the floor and then we move a viewfinder to hurl towards a surface on which to walk: this operation is accomplished by moving the right stick or using the gyroscope inside the console and moving it , which, to our surprise, was more precise and natural stick. As you can imagine, swinging the momentum to a surface can also be a way to attack enemies, hitting them with a kick on the fly.

After practicing with our new powers, another short narrative sequence we did see another girl in our own powers and to reach it we could appreciate the naturalness of movement and dynamism of the protagonist. The brief conversation between the two girls was unfortunately subtitled in Japanese, so we do not understand anything of what you have said. We only know that before long we found ourselves committed to fight against a boss-shaped vaguely like that of an octopus that we had to fight using the techniques learned so far. In addition to the attack described above, the main character can dodge enemy fire at the touch of a button, but it has happened more than once to forget about it while we were busy trying to take aim at the weak point of the monster. Despite our defensive ineptitude, we still managed to win the fight e. .. to finish the demo, unfortunately. We would have liked the opportunity to enjoy a little 'with Gravity Rush, because what little we have seen and felt we made a great impression. The layout has personality and a touch of originality that never hurts, and the main character is well animated, while the game mechanics seem solid and inspired. Gravity Rush looks like a project designed for an audience of fans, but the art style and its aesthetics could attract users not accustomed to such securities.
