The streets of remakes of old classics of the past has often paved with good makeover (think Space Invaders: Infinity Gene or Pac-Man Championship Edition), but also by means of missteps such as the recent remake of Yars' Revenge. Not that Atari is given for winning and she is back to glorify his timeless classic Asteroids (the year of grace 1979) on the screen of the iPhone and iPad. We shall not here to remember the why and wherefore of the aura that revolves around this legendary shooter vector of the pair-Logg Rains, also because this restructuring has little to do with the original more than thirty years ago, if not the concept of the fund (shoot hundreds of asteroids).

Asteroids Gunner has been transformed for the occasion in a dual-stick shooter, a genre very popular on the App Store that has already resulted in a great space shooter like Meteor Blitz and other titles of note (iDracula and Alive-4- Ever to name two of success). The presence of two virtual stick allows us to monitor both the movements of our spaceship to 360 degrees, both the direction of the turret to fire. Everything, mostly to better manage the movement and direction, is a little 'uncomfortable for the first hour of play, but it does not take long to become familiar with this system and, if played on the iPad as in our case, the size of the two sticks were optimal (instead imagine a few more problems for the iPhone).

As in the original game in this case, the aim of the game is to destroy as many asteroids as quickly as possible, but the options in the game are naturally more varied and numerous. Asteroids destroyed (even partially) issue because pieces of gold and crystal collectibles for upgrading weapons and spacecraft, shields, missiles and cannons to fire wide, space mines, and other delicious gadgets of all-killer asteroid are the heart a very large system upgrade which is basically the only real reason for interest in the game. The fifty waves of asteroids does not allow it space to large variations between one level and the other as both setting and visual style, both as in-game content. The beauty of a title like Asteroids Gunner is in fact enhance all upgradeable and unlock all the content as possible, including various models of ships (each with its own characteristics) and the other two galaxies, which add another hundred waves of asteroids.

Unfortunately, these bonuses can be obtained via the so-called Space Bucks only paying out real money ($ 99 if you want even more expensive to purchase) with micro-transactions typical of a title like this freemium. Nothing wrong with that as the game itself is free and that free version already offers a good amount of upgrades and a whole galaxy, but a little 'all the game mechanics seem tailor-made to entice the in-app purchase and while this approach is understandable, the other is implemented in a somewhat 'devious.

Overall Asteroids Gunner is well made, fun gameplay and offers a simple but functional nature of its old-fashioned arcade-shooter. Also with the update to version 1.1 have been removed several bugs (such as the odious level 50), becomes slightly easier to buy power-ups and introduced a kind of multiplayer turn-based usable by Game Center. In reality it is just completing a wave of asteroids by making the best possible score and then compare it with that of our opponent that plays right after us, but if you do not have any friends on Game Center is impossible to play and in any case Multiplayer is a lot of rose water that does not add much at all.
