For fans of strategy games "old style" Paradox Interactive is a steel reference point, with titles such as Victoria, Crusader Kings or Europe Universalism to represent shining examples of deep and complex game. With the team here today Sengoku Paradox Interactive has decided to adapt its rigorous philosophy "simulation" to feudal Japan of 1400: a setting particular, especially because of the subtle policies that ran this unique country at the time, which is reflected in a particularly challenging game and layered.

Japan in mid-1400 was not a particularly comfortable. Dozens and dozens of clan conflict between them, a pretty precarious economic situation and the current shogun (Ashgabat) did not have a broad consensus among the various daimyo (feudal lords important at the time). This situation resulted in mid-century in what has been called the Sengoku era, full of conflicts and will continue until the seventeenth century.

Whether you're studying or not, early in the game we still select one of the clans political map of Japan and one of four predefined scenarios (all well-differentiated) to start so our unstoppable (?) Ascent.

Anyone who has ever had to deal with recent strategy game published by Paradox Interactive can already imagine what it will be before launching Sengoku: a complex turn-based strategy game packed with screens full of numbers, icons and various graphics. Through an interface very unfriendly after all we can in fact control the four main sections of information (military, economic, commercial and political) trying to manage everything in the best way. During the game must take a series of choices basically divided between internal management of the estate and relationships (military, diplomatic, or commercial) with the other clans, all integrated in a very rigid structure that closely resembles that of a complex board game. The events run in real time on a map of Japan but anytime we can pause the game and make our choices: in fact, Sengoku is a hybrid between a classic turn-based structure and a real-time strategy game. The ultimate goal of each scenario is to keep under its control (or at least within a strong alliance) 50% in Japan and maintain stability for at least three years: we can do is to rely on internal resources to Japan as clans and other important personalities to bring to our cause, both trying to exploit profitable but challenging contacts with the Western powers, well-intentioned to reach agreements with Japan itself, such as France and England. However, it is important to remember, for the internal relations that Sengoku is not a "Risk" in which to attack neighboring nations is the best possible interaction. By contrast, waging war, although essential in the game, is just one of the ways you can interact with other clans. Diplomatic options are always available to test the waters, proposing to establish alliances or simply truces, but if you really want to be there are always evil ninja for hire to eliminate this or that character and fix the situation "uncomfortable" shedding a little blood. In case it is quite inevitable, however, your troops are ready to embark on the battlefield in a very streamlined combat system, based on a few different types of troops and on a system of technological evolution that, over time, will enhance the 'implementation of the firearms on the most troops, equipped with obsolete weapons.
