The view of the FPS war, and particularly those competitive online, it is increasingly crowded. With names as cumbersome as Battlefield and Call of Duty, it is increasingly difficult to carve out a space and time in the attention of the players. Tripwire Interactive development studio, who won the 2005 prize of one million dollar Make Something Unreal competition organized by Epic, decided to avoid direct confrontation with the big guns of the genre and has specialized in securities and more niche a very different and distinctive, as also confirmed by their latest effort, Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, just out of Steam and other online trading platforms.

Despite being a multiplayer game voted almost entirely to the Red Orchestra 2 also features a single player. The first missions are simple tutorials that teach the basics of movement and environmental interaction and reveal even less common features like the ability to adjust the handle of the weapon based on the estimated distance of the target.
The campaign itself is divided into two for the Axis and the Russian army, offers non-interactive cut-scenes between missions and the other to contextualize the battles we are facing, but do not add anything concrete to ' gaming experience, especially for the more versed in modern history. The missions themselves are basically the multiplayer games with bots controlled by the computer instead of human players. They have the advantage to teach the basic mechanics, the use of tanks and the use of options and foremen of the commander in battle, but the poor AI teammates and opponents make it an experience that does not deserve quite negligible special attention.

Although softened compared to its predecessor, the most important feature of Red Orchestra 2 is definitely the realism with which it reproduced the experience of a battlefield of World War II. The most obvious result of this approach is the ease with which you die during the game, often due to a single bullet from an enemy which far totally ignored the position. Another interesting feature is represented by the effect that fire suppression has on our enemy soldier heard the bullets whiz around our head, or hear them bouncing off the wall behind which we are fixing, our soldiers will create a feeling of panic that limit his vision and his self-control, often forcing us to stay still, hoping not to get hit. This causes the fire suppression tactic represents an option to limit the actual movements of the enemy and control the battlefield.
