Developed over three years only from Joshua Nuernberger, Gemini Rue is landed on the "shelf" virtual last February, and we have shamefully neglected. In late October, however, the excellent adventure game published by Wadjet Games has made off on Steam and we decided to take this opportunity to fix it. Obviously, however late, otherwise we would not be us.

The first few minutes of play with Gemini Rue the breath away and leave incredulous. It is hard to comprehend how one can communicate in spite of so much raw graphic style and old fashioned, with its beautiful pixelloni in the exhibition and its poor animations. The work on the sounds, the music, the characterization of the environments and characters with writing is just perfect. Gemini Rue catapult into the future a la Blade Runner as perhaps no one has ever managed to do in the world of video games (except, perhaps, just the game officially licensed by the Ridley Scott). We are there, we are living, embraces us with its noises and seems to breathe the stench of dead tortured by an endless rain of blood and crime.

The future painted by Joshua Nuernberg is one of those that we would not survive for ever to get to to see. It tells of a humanity capable of traveling into space, but unable to confront its own contradictions. Shadow governing organizations manipulating the minds and burying free will. Of men in search of its identity and elusive past. It tells the noir fiction as it rarely gets done, leaning on a cut mature and aware, which does not escape the clichés but rather embraces them passionately, bending to the will of a solid narrative, exciting plot twists and well-weighed. Gemini Rue is a little gem of videogame storytelling.

The game structure goes hand in hand with the aesthetic and system fielding mechanics of graphic adventure simple and pretty straightforward, but not without some flicker. We are far dall'enigmistica a convolved Simon the Sorcerer or a fine riddles Gabriel Knight, the most subservient to the narrative parts of the gameplay that we remember in The Orion Conspiracy, another good science fiction film from the cut and mature. In Gemini Rue does not spend time trying to combine different objects together fifty thousand and concentrate instead on solving situations, trying to remain anchored to reality. It is definitely a game challenge from its puzzles, but still interesting for the chance to face different situations in different ways (perhaps through dialogue, maybe not), and the way in which computer terminals in the game world allow you to process data and investigate.

Of course, those looking for an adventure game on which to split the brain will be disappointed, but Gemini Rue pointing in another direction and that can not meet anyone interested in experiencing the great narrative power. The winner here is the sense of rhythm, punctuated perfectly by the presence of two witnesses "gambling", by the insertion of arcade sequences that move without tiring, amazing atmosphere and the skillful work of writing. If we consider the means by which all this has been developed, it is just to take off his hat.
