The stylish dim the EL Jaded, disco-themed restaurant in Milan Arabic, welcomed us to the presentation of 3 Uncharted: Drake's Deception. A must-see event, which has served as an appetizer to the upcoming release of the next big thing Naughty Dog license plate: a highly anticipated title, no doubt destined to rage autumn-winter season (the period that has always been a real massacre portfolios, fought at masterpieces in the round of shots!). Given the brevity dell’ hands and especially on the imminent review - scheduled for next week - we have however decided to kill time by offering you an interview, taking advantage of the presence of on-site by Arne Meyer and Justin Richmond (respectively Community Strategist and Game Director of the game).

So prepare your backpack, remember the compass and make yourself comfortable ... you go on a one-way trip in the desert!

Video game. it: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune , was your first title on the PlayStation 3: a new IP that has been launched initially a bit 'on the sly, but four years later not only reached its third chapter, but has become in effect one of the pillars of the universe from Sony. How to live a similar situation? Look on your skin all the excitement and responsibility of being part of a true legend in the making?

Justin Richmond: Yes, it's awesome! (Laughs.  ...) Really, when I was appointed game director for Uncharted 3, I received the wonderful news with a little 'of fear: after all it is as if someone had handed over the keys of one of the best franchises in the square, and is actually one thing that sometimes keeps me awake at night. I hope I have done a good job and I hope that the good name of the series is not affected, although in all honesty I think I was good. It must be said that you should not talk about me, but a formidable team: together we have created a fantastic game, and all the guys are so talented ... I sometimes feel like an idiot most of the study seriously, in front of people so brilliant. However, it is an honor to work with people I work with, the franchise of which we are engaged.

Video game it: After the huge success of the second chapter, inevitably you are the center of attention. With the Thieves have set a standard of absolute excellence, and have become a landmark for the whole generation: you know very well that all the games that are PS3 or 360 makes no difference, are compared to Uncharted 2. .. View the matter as a burden hard to bear, or rather as something that fills you with pride and that pushes you to do even better?

Justin Richmond: Both. The situation is a little 'special: we are very hard on ourselves internally, and one of the cornerstones of the development of Uncharted 3 was the idea of not resting on our laurels. There was a willingness to try harder and if possible to bring the results are amazing and complex. It is difficult to balance time, economic resources, artistic ambitions and needs of fans managing to fit everything, this is really a delicate balance ... especially if you do not want a repeat in the same game mechanics, and indeed try to improve the story, the characters to evolve and so on. We have exerted immense pressure on ourselves, and seen the results achieved with the earlier maybe we could take it more lightly ... but I am very happy with the result of efforts and, and I hope that fans will appreciate the same way! (Laughs.  ...)

Video game It: After his debut, Uncharted was seen as the paradigm of perfect single player experience, a sort of playable version of a bombastic Hollywood action movie full of explosions and jokes. The news of the inclusion of multiplayer frankly surprised everyone, and many say it all - including us - were somewhat baffled when an ad that surprising (though later, pad in hand, they are however very few moments sufficed to convince goodness of the indisputable choice ...). How did the idea of making an uncharted multiplayer? The whole team was convinced of an addition that was representing a potentially risky gamble?

Justin Richmond: Anyone who was skeptical, I know. I in particular have served as lead designer of Uncharted 2 multiplayer, so I know the topic very well: I was hired to nine months from start of game development, with a mandate to come up with the multiplayer component of the franchise. Naughty Dog wanted, in fact a strong multiplayer mode, even without having a clear idea ... So we talked, and we did some 'experiments. The game play has always been at the heart of everything we asked ourselves "what we will offer you different from others?", And the answer is that the way in which you play Uncharted differs from any other third-person shooter. In Uncharted you climb, you move stealthily, is a frontal attack, using the shell, you work as a team ... And also the map design is special: the development is always vertical, and rather elaborate. We realized early on that those were our strengths, and playing we realized that the formula would work just fine even in a multiplayer environment. So it was a gamble, it is true, but with a calculated risk: after all the fun was really noticeable in the earliest developed as evidence builds.

Video game it: Is there any way in particular that inspired you in creating the multiplayer of Uncharted? Maybe even in an indirect manner, for example, may have targeted the accessibility of Mario Kart, or team dynamics Gears of War...

Justin Richmond: Well, we at Naughty Dog, we love to play a bit 'of everything, and we are absolutely petrified of a specific genre. There is no single way in which we have referred, however, we have set of questions to use as guidelines: I enjoy? Anyone can do it quickly and immediately? While in a multiplayer environment, the feeling remained that of Uncharted? By answering these questions, we created the multiplayer mode of the second chapter, which was later expanded and revised for the third episode. There is one aspect of the multiplayer in The Deception of Drake, which makes us particularly proud: as you will discover in a few weeks, the multiplayer is more than ever, brings with it the main cinematic adventure, which is a considerable value from my point of view ... There is a basic continuity between two different gaming experiences.
